MAKARA STARNES

My practice is inspired by everyday life and everyday people. The quiet happenings, familiar spaces, and seemingly ordinary moments that most often go unnoticed. Through oil painting, I explore color, light, and its many variations, the fondness of memory, and the touch that only humans have. My practice is one big meditation; it asks that you pay a specific kind of attention, find purpose in the commonplace, and notice.

My work has been exhibited in Herron School of Art + Design and community exhibitions throughout Indianapolis and Washington, D.C. Alongside my studio practice, I am currently pursuing a degree in Art Education. I also lead community art workshops and develop creative experiences for learners of all ages and backgrounds.
